Along with our estimate, many of our members benefit from other research tools we provide that is integrated with their DNA results such as DNA matching, ancestral surnames and comparing matching family trees to help understand their family story. Even when there is a statistical difference between ethnicities within a region, it is true for the population's average. Being that Norway and Western Europe (Denmark) are close together on the map and science currently finds DNA to be very similar between people in neighboring countries, where there isn't sufficient statistical difference, the ethnicity estimate is retained on a higher regional level. The results you receive in the MyHeritage Ethnicity Estimate are based on an autosomal DNA test. I understand that you have researched your family's origins in Norway and Denmark but this doesn't reflect on your Ethnicity Estimate. Warm Regards Rafael MyHeritageĭear Sergio, I regret to find that you are unhappy with your Ethnicity Report.

But this will improve thanks to our Founder Population project, the largest study of this kind ever conducted with More than 5000 participants of different ethnicities that will help us reference more models and ultimately enrich our DNA data set. For our Ethnicity Estimate we currently have 42 genetic models that are based on ethnic groups around the world. I can assure you that MyHeritage is on top of finding new discoveries and will continue to improve our Ethnicity Estimate to give you the most accurate results. Estimating one’s ethnicity based on DNA is a relatively new field in genetics, great advancements have been made in the past years, but there is much more to discover. That being said, MyHeritage has been assisting people worldwide in researching their family trees online for over 14 years and our goal is to keep on refining our ethnicity estimate. It is true to consider that L'Anse aux Meadows, a viking archaeological site of a Norse or Viking settlement in the region, does show evidence of pre-Columbian trans-oceanic contact from Scandinavians dating back to the year 1000. While you may have researched your family as far back as the 1400’s in French Canada, it does not necessarily mean that your father does not share common DNA with people in Scandinavia.

I, too, have gone through waiting for my own DNA results only to find it was worth the wait, as "all good things" tend to be. Dear Lee, I can totally identify with how discouraging it is to wait for DNA results.
